Professionals Can Earn Credentials Via a Business Communications Program
ROGERS, Ark. — Registration is open for a six-week business communications program, starting in October, that allows professionals to build and enhance their skills, while earning a certificate of completion.
The Business Communications Certificate Program will be offered from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 14, through Nov. 18, at the University of Arkansas Global Campus in Rogers, Suite 402, 3300 Market St.
Participants can register online. The cost is $459 per person, but U of A faculty, staff students and Alumni Association members pay $410.
Ryan Stearle, Conair Corp.’s national account sales manager for its Wal-mart Stores Inc. team, will teach classes in the program. A graduate of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the U of A, Stearle has held a variety of marketing and sales leadership positions with Alberto Culver, the Coleman Co. and Rawlings Sporting Goods.
“To be successful in today’s workplace, professionals must convey data-driven, meaningful, succinct and persuasive messages to stakeholders,” Stearle said. “Successful business people know how to communicate, and they do it with ease across a variety of channels.”
To earn the certificate, participants must complete five of the six courses: four core and one elective. The core courses include personal branding, verbal and written communications, presentation skills and visual, and negotiation and influence. The elective courses are sales and analytics.
This program has been approved for 13 recertification credit hours from the Human Resource Certification Institute and 12.9 hours from the Society for Human Resource Management toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR certifications.
“This program was developed with the working professional in mind,” said Heather Sprandel, an affiliate of the Global Campus. “Professionals can start their day as part of one of the program courses and still have plenty of time to complete all of their business and personal activities.”
This program will provide a significant point of differentiation in the skill set of anyone who participates, Sprandel said.
Learning objectives include:
- Understanding your personal brand
- Establishing internal and external networks
- Exploring interpersonal skills
- Examining diverse communication skills and methods
- Modeling professional written and verbal communications skills
- Evaluating risk management
Sprandel develops professional development programs for the Global Campus and serves as an adjunct instructor at the Sam M. Walton College of Business.
