Fay Jones School Exhibition Features Work of Norwegian Practice Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects
"Constructing Views 2010-2015," an exhibition of the design work of the Norwegian firm Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects, is on display through Oct. 9 in the Fred and Mary Smith Exhibition Gallery in Vol Walker Hall.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — An exhibit of design work by Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects, an internationally recognized Norwegian practice, is on display through Oct. 9 in the Fred and Mary Smith Exhibition Gallery in Vol Walker Hall on the University of Arkansas campus. It is presented by the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design.
An opening reception for Constructing Views 2010-2015 will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, following a 5 p.m. lecture by Einar Jarmund, a founder of the firm.
The firm, created by Jarmund and Håkon Vigsnæs in 1995 in Oslo, Norway, works in a wide range of architectural commissions mainly in Norway but also in other European countries as well as the United States. A residential commission is underway in Indiana.
"JVA's emphases on the tectonic facts of design and construction and the stress on site-specific responses are the constituent elements of the more contemporary mode of performance-based design," writes Peter MacKeith, dean of the Fay Jones School, in the forward for the exhibit catalog.
Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects constantly looks for innovative ways to show juxtaposition through architecture and the environment. Most of the firm's work has consisted of public buildings and housing projects, but they also work in urban planning and building interiors.
The Constructing Views 2010-2015 exhibit shows the firm's portfolio of built and projected work, which is also chronicled in the accompanying exhibit catalog. The catalog provides descriptions, images and design drawings for 20 projects. The pieces of this exhibit literally interlock with one another, creating three structural figures within the gallery space.
The work of Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects has been extensively published worldwide, and many of the firm's projects have received recognition in Norway and Scandinavia. The Dune House, built in England in 2010, won a 2012 Royal Institute of British Architects Award.
The exhibition gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
