FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - This fall, Jee Young Chung will join the Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism as an assistant professor in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

"We are very pleased to add Dr. Chung to our faculty," said Larry Foley, department chair. "Her unique international experience in both the corporate world and academia will give students a great perspective."

Chung's dissertation examined organizational legitimacy and factors that affect it, such as corporate social responsibility. Her academic research interests are to expand the scope of public relations to strategic corporate communication. Her current research will focus on developing new models that accurately reflect the social media mix in strategic corporate communication.

"I believe that becoming a good scholar-teacher requires both practical and academic knowledge," Chung said. "I know that the University of Arkansas is the ideal place to balance research and teaching because it is an outstanding academic institution that emphasizes excellence in both areas."

Chung is a member of the International Communication Association, the National Communication Association and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Chung earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature from Seoul Women's University in South Korea. She holds a Master of Arts in public relations from the University of Houston and a doctorate in mass communication from the University of Alabama.
