ROGERS, Ark. — Registration is open for the Managing Projects certificate program from the University of Arkansas Global Campus beginning Sept. 1. The purpose is to help participants master practical tools and explore new technologies to manage small to mid-sized projects.

The Managing Projects program includes 15 in-class hours and about five hours of independent, out-of-class project work. Sessions will meet from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 1-29, at the U of A Global Campus in Rogers, 3300 Market St.

Participants who successfully complete the course requirements will earn a certificate of completion from the U of A Global Campus and 11.75 professional development hours from the Society for Human Resource Management and 11.75 business hours from the Human Resource Certification Institute.

The cost is $590, and U of A faculty, staff, students and alumni association members receive a 10 percent discount. Register online.

In its fourth year, the program continues to meet the needs of functional managers and professionals in information technology and human resources, people who must ensure organizational strategic intent while managing projects. Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

  • Use project management tools to plan and execute projects
  • Translate project requirements into finished projects
  • Form and work within project teams
  • Evaluate project outcomes

The course will include practical references, case studies, online learning materials and an introduction to project technologies. Participants will receive project management application training during the first of the five sessions.

To earn the certificate of completion, participants must attend at least 80 percent of the classes, complete all in- and out-of-class assignments, and score 80 percent or better on the final presentation.

William “Ricky” Teague, who holds a master’s degree and a senior professional in human resources certification, is the lead instructor for this program. He teaches in the operations management program in the College of Engineering at the U of A and is a board member of the northwest Arkansas chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, also known as NOARK.

The Global Campus developed Managing Projects in 2011 at the urging of Pauline Rankin, the former interim dean of the Global Campus who died in March 2015.

“Dr. Rankin threw us the challenge to build a program that would answer a need in the business community and stand the test of time,” said Judith Tavano, director of professional development at Global Campus. “We assembled a team of industry experts and created the program.”
