John Oliver, a comedian who provides an often hilarious look at the nation's news during his HBO show, Last Week Tonight, took the country to task in a recent episode for the amount of good food that goes to waste each day.

One of the myths that has prevented many groceries from donating unused food to shelters for the homeless is a mistaken belief that they could be sued. Oliver points to a study made by the School of Law's Food Recovery Project. They found that no lawsuits had been filed with regard to recovered food.

The mention of the School of Law project comes at about 12:06 in Oliver's spiel.

Not mentioned is the university's work to create recovery projects with Chartwells, the campus food provider. As Oliver says, it not only makes sense to keep good food out landfills and provide healthy meals for those who need food, but it makes good business sense to reduce waste.
