Would you know what to do in a cardiac, breathing, or first aid emergency? The right answer could help you save a life. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED courses are designed to help people lead safer and healthier lives, as well as enhance preparedness in homes, schools, and workplaces.

The department of University Recreation is offering an American Red Cross First Aid, Adult CPR and AED certification course on Friday, June 5 from 1-5 p.m. In addition to choking rescue and CPR techniques, students will learn how to treat cuts, bruises, bone and muscle injuries, shock, bleeding and other first aid emergencies. Students will also learn how to operate an automated external defibrillator (AED).

This course meets OSHA's Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. Upon successful completion, students receive American Red Cross certificates for Adult CPR, Adult First Aid, and AED (valid for two years). The cost for the course is $65 for U of A students and $85 for all other participants.

University Recreation is also happy to bring an American Red Cross course to your office or classroom for groups of 8 or more. All materials are provided, and class dates are set up to fit your schedule.

These classes are open to members of the public. Participants do not need to be affiliated with the University of Arkansas to register and attend. Students and Faculty/Staff may register online at http://urecmembers.uark.edu. Other participants may register in person at the University Recreation membership office in HPER 225. The UREC membership office is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
