Undergraduates to Present Papers on Islam and Expression at Second Annual Conference

The King Fahd Center will sponsor the second annual undergraduate symposium titled "Islamic Studies: Belief, Expression, Journey, Debate" from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in Arkansas Union room 503. Presenters are students in MEST2003 Intro to Islam and PLSC400V Gender and Policy in the Middle East.

The following papers will be presented:

• "Brother Whom I Love: Alternative Sexual Relations in Turkey" by Nathaniel Baily (junior, political science)
• "Desecration of the Body: Tattoos in Middle Eastern Culture" by Abram Greenbaum (junior, political science/Middle East studies)
• "In Order That He May Rest in Peace" by William Harris (junior, non-degree seeking)
• "'Glory be to God, I Have Killed My Daughter': The Tradition of Honor Killing in Jordan" by Austin Keefer (junior, international studies/political science/Middle East studies)
• "Getting Freedom Back in Cadillacs: Women, Religion, and the State in Saudi Arabia" by Victoria Lawler (senior, political science)
• "To Sin or Not to Sin: Mankind's Intentions and Inclinations" by Christian McCall (junior, international studies/Middle East studies)
• "Understanding the Great: Rediscovering the Teachings of the Prophet Muhammad and Gautama Buddha" by Rebecca Payton (senior, international studies/Latino American studies/Spanish, and Arabic and Middle East studies minors)

About the King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies: The King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies is an academic and research unit in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. An interdisciplinary and interdepartmental area studies center that offers diverse cultural, intellectual, and educational opportunities for the University of Arkansas community, it promotes research and teaching in interdisciplinary Middle East studies.
