For many, open water swimming can seem intimidating. Different than pool swimming, it involves natural elements such as choppy or murky water, as well as expansive space and mass starts not controlled by the guidance of lane lines. Before you enter your triathlon or head to the lake, practicing open water swim techniques may help develop the physical and mental skills needed to undertake your adventure.

University Recreation is offering a clinic to develop and help you practice your open water swimming skills in a no-barriers pool environment.  This one-session clinic is designed for the athlete who is preparing for outdoor triathlon season. With no lane or section ropes, participants will practice skills such as sighting, turning at buoys, and stretching out their strokes.

The clinic will be taught by, Mavie Hogue, an experienced triathlete and fitness coach in the Northwest Arkansas area. Participants should be able to comfortably perform basic freestyle swim strokes and breathing.
