This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: April 17-24
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host several musical performances, two literature readings, a play, a film and an art exhibition this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.
Noise, an exhibition by Laura Polaski, will open at 9 a.m. Friday, April 17, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery and run until Sunday, April 26. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.
Also on Friday, Abby Carr will give a voice recital at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center's Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
At the same time, Alex Grisos will give a trumpet recital at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 224 N. East Ave.
Willi Goehring, Kathleen Heil and Diana Reaves will give readings of their works written in the Program in Creative Writing at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, in Old Main's Giffels Auditorium.
Later that evening, Amanda Davis will give a voice recital at 8 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
This Weekend
The University of Arkansas Department of Theatre presents The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov. The play opens at 8 p.m. Friday, April 17, in the Fine Arts Center's University Theatre. Additional performances will be given at 8 p.m. April 18, and 22-25 and at 2 p.m. April 19 and 26. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and University of Arkansas faculty and staff and $5 for students with a valid student ID. Chase Teague will give a trumpet recital at 3:30 p.m. and Sean Breast will give a euphonium recital at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Three performances will be given Sunday, April 19, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The University of Arkansas Cello Studio will perform at 3 p.m., Hannah Mindeman will give a piano recital at 6 p.m. and Evan Johnson will give a trombone recital at 8 p.m.
Monday to Thursday
The University of Arkansas Wind Symphony and Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, at the Walton Arts Center. Admission is $5 for general public and $1 for students with a valid University of Arkansas student ID.
The University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Walton Arts Center. Admission is $5 for general public and $1 for students with a valid University of Arkansas student ID.
The Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, in the Arkansas Union Theatre.
At the same time, Nadi Cinema presents When I Saw You (dir. Annemarie Jacir, Palestine 2012) in Hembree Auditorium in the Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences building room 107E.
Later that evening, the University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Fayetteville High School Auditorium.
Diego Plata will give a flute recital at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Next Weekend
A reception for Noise, an exhibition by Laura Polaski, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.
Also on Friday, Christopher Johns II and Eric Barnett will give a saxophone recital at 6 p.m. Friday, April 24, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Later that evening, Megan Clark and Diana Alice Otto will give readings of their works written in the Program in Creative Writing at 7 p.m. in Old Main's Giffels Auditorium.
To close the week, the University of Arkansas New Music Ensemble will give a concert at 8 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
