U of A Named in Top 4 Percent of American Marketing Association Collegiate Chapters

The University of Arkansas American Marketing Association chapter was recently recognized as being in the top 4 percent of roughly 400 AMA Collegiate Chapters for the 2014-15 school year.

The announcement was made during the national association's conference March 18-20 in New Orleans.

Advised by marketing instructors Nicole Cox and John Cole of the Sam M. Walton College of Business, the U of A chapter also received awards for outstanding community service, outstanding fundraising and outstanding communications. Chapter President Candace Gooding was runner-up for AMA chapter president of the year. The chapter's booth at the conference won second place for most educational value.

"Everyone worked so hard this year, so it was such a great feeling to see our efforts rewarded with such a high national placement," Gooding said. "I don't know any group of students that would deserve this honor more than this year's executive board and membership."

Representatives attending the conference for Arkansas also took part in the SABRE business simulation competition and in a marketing strategy competition. Two others competed in the DHL and Northwestern Mutual Selling and Sales Competition, taking third place.

The university AMA chapter is working on projects including the Spectrum Brands product development competition, which the chapter will present to Spectrum executives on April 15. The chapter also hosts with the university a 5K Race for an Educated Kenya at 2 p.m. April 19, starting on the lawn of Old Main to raise money to provide high school education for underprivileged students in Kapsabet, Kenya.
