FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences Dean's Office and Student Ambassadors brought Bumpers students, faculty and alumni together for the annual Connecting Bumpers event on Feb. 26 at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House.

The event allowed students to connect with Bumpers College alumni and also hear from Shannon Mirus, who offered tips on the job hunting process.

Mirus is a Bumpers College and University of Arkansas School of Law alum. She is currently vice president-general council at Arkansas Oklahoma Gas Corporation.

"The more you go through the interview process, the more you are going to get out of it," Mirus said.

Mirus also recommended candidates "dress to impress" by wearing clean, ironed clothes that fit well.

"It never hurts to be the best-dressed person in the room for an interview," she said.

Other suggestions included:

  • Do not be late
  • Do not be on your phone
  • Do research on the company
  • Do check your social-media presence
  • Do have three strengths, three weaknesses and an elevator speech about yourself ready to share

More than 40 students and alumni attended the event, which also helps students learn how to mingle in a crowded business setting.
