Khan previously taught in Chicago at Harper High School, which he said is known as one of "the most dangerous" schools in the country. His innovative methods for teaching were adopted by other Chicago public schools and the recognition won Khan four consecutive Medal Awards for highest student achievement from the Chicago Office of School Improvement.
