National Panhellenic Conference Celebrates International Badge Day
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 10 National Panhellenic Conference groups on the University of Arkansas campus are celebrating International Badge Day Monday, March 2, and showing their support for one another by wearing heart stickers that feature NPC sorority Greek letters.
International Badge Day was established in 1997 by the National Panhellenic Conference to set aside a day for women everywhere to wear their sorority badges or Greek organization letters in a celebration of sisterhood. This year’s theme is “Wear Your Letters on Your Heart.”
"Today is an opportunity for sorority members across the country to celebrate their values and the diversity within our respective organizations as well as share our common experiences as Greek leaders,” said Parice Bowser, director of Greek Life. “Sororities from all councils traditionally join in this celebration."
The Kappa Delta sorority purchased 3,000 stickers created for the event for the campus National Panhellenic Council organizations.
“This day emphasizes the solidarity of Greek organizations on our campus. Our Greek system is quite unique because we genuinely support each other’s philanthropies, anniversaries, and successes. We want all our chapters to be successful. We are promoting unity by wearing the stickers even though we are wearing our own badges and letters. It’s great to be part of an organization that is bigger than each individual sorority,“ said Regan Myers, a junior advertising and public relations major, from Coppell, Texas, and member of Kappa Delta. “We’ve committed to making this an annual event to celebrate our Greek community and those around the world, especially the organization – NPC – that brought complete strangers together and made them a family.”
“NPC organizations support each other every day nationally, but International Badge Day is a wonderful opportunity for the Greek chapters on our own campus to visibly show their support of each other,” said Denice Pugh, Kappa Delta’s Collegiate Panhellenic Advisor.
National Panhellenic Conference, one of the largest organizations advocating for women, is the umbrella group for 26 national and international sororities. NPC sororities are located at more than 660 campuses with 325,772 undergraduate members in 3,127 chapters. Alumnae are represented in 3,883 associations throughout the world.
