Vigil Planned to Honor Muslim Students Murdered at University of North Carolina
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Muslim Student Association is holding a candlelight vigil in memory of Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha, and Razan Abu-Salha, three North Carolina students who were murdered on Feb. 10 in Chapel Hill.
The vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, on the Central Quad outside the Arkansas Union. Members of the University of Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas communities are invited to attend.
“Many of us were disappointed at our major media outlets and their lack of response to this tragedy,” said Sana Khan, president of the Muslim Student Association. “We are saddened, yet encouraged, that our generation brought the news to our communities when we saw that there was not enough justice being done for these three lives.
“In the wake of this dark and painful situation, it is our hope that our society would acknowledge the misguided fears that plague us and that through this vigil our society would see the beauty, grace, resilience, kindness, and richness of the Muslim faith and community, in all its diversity.”
