Boston Professor to Give Lecture About Civic Education at Islamic Schools

Charles L. Glenn, professor of education at Boston University, will give a lecture about civic education at Islamic schools at noon Friday, Feb. 20, on the University of Arkansas campus.

The lecture is part of the series sponsored by the department of education reform and is free and open to the public. It starts at noon in Room 343 of the Graduate Education Building, and RSVP is requested for a light lunch. RSVP online by 1 p.m. today, Feb. 18.

Glenn's lecture is titled "Educating Counter-Cultural Citizens: Civic Education in Islamic Schools." He is a professor of educational leadership and teaches courses in education history and U.S. and comparative policy. He formerly worked for the Massachusetts Department of Education as the director of urban education and equity efforts, Glenn is responsible for the nation's first state bilingual education mandate and the law forbidding race and sex discrimination in education. He conducts research in Europe and North America that mainly focuses on equality in schools. Glenn is vice president of an international organization that promotes educational freedom and the right to education and serves on the Massachusetts Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
