Expert Presents Program and Training on Campus Threat Prevention

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Gene Deisinger, a national expert on threat management will hold an open discussion and training session on the behavioral intervention and threat assessment team program. The session will take place from 8-9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 in the Northwest Quad Building B, Room B108. All interested members of the campus community are invited.

Deisinger developed this threat management program to develop coordination and collaboration across entire campus communities, to create a proactive, prevention-oriented approach to potentially threatening behavior. This approach uses early identification of behavioral issues with a response strategy designed to manage a developing situation in its early stages, with the focus on preventing escalation of potentially dangerous behavior.

Deisinger is a licensed psychologist, a certified health service provider in psychology, and a certified law enforcement officer. He developed the behavioral intervention and threat assessment team program in 1994 while serving as the primary threat manager for Iowa State University. He was hired by Virginia Tech in 2009 and recently retired as deputy chief of police and director of threat management services.

Deisinger is a managing partner of SIGMA Threat Management Associates and has personally managed threat cases and protective details for a broad range of governmental dignitaries, public figures, and members of the university community. He is lead author of The Handbook for Campus Threat Assessment & Management Teams and was appointed as a Fellow of the U.S. Department of Education Center for Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Violence Prevention.
