R.O.C.K. Camp is now accepting applications for 2015 Mentors. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30. All applicants must attend a required information session at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, or Thursday, Jan. 22, in Arkansas Union Food Court Room 308 SW. 

R.O.C.K. (Razorback Outreach for Community and Knowledge) Camp is an extended orientation program designed to help new students gain valuable insight and knowledge about their new home at the University of Arkansas. R.O.C.K. Camp, R.O.C.K. Camp Adventure, and R.O.C.K. Camp Service continues to succeed because of the student mentor staff. R.O.C.K. Camp Mentors help create lasting friendships and welcome new students into the Razorback family by learning traditions, engaging in service, and setting the tone for a successful college career. 

According to junior Whitney Muller, “R.O.C.K. Camp is a great way to get involved on campus. It will provide you a great opportunity to meet a diverse group of students whether they are your co-mentors or mentees. R.O.C.K. Camp can also help you explore your top strengths and learn how to utilize them in a leadership position. This program has been a major factor in the quality of my college experience both as a student participant and mentor.”

Junior Richard Peevy goes on to say, “R.O.C.K. Camp achieves this task by providing participants a fun and educational environment that instills the values of community service and tradition, while cultivating the growth of relationships with other classmates/upperclassmen in the form of R.O.C.K. Camp mentors/coordinators. This experience has by far impacted my life in ways I never expected it would, to this day the relationships I built then with my mentors and friends are just as strong if not stronger.”

Both Muller and Peevy serve as members of the 2015 R.O.C.K. Camp Student Coordinator Team in addition to junior Laurel King and sophomore Maddie Kemper. 

During the required information sessions, applicants will meet R.O.C.K. Camp staff members, learn about what it takes to be a successful mentor, and participate in small group discussions with previous mentors to gain a better understanding of the mentor experience.
