Craig Named Global Campus Employee of the Quarter
Bobby Craig, instructional designer, accepts the Global Campus employee of the quarter award from Javier Reyes, vice provost for distance education
Bobby Craig has been named employee of the first quarter by the University of Arkansas Global Campus.
Craig is an instructional designer at the Global Campus. He works with faculty and students involved with online and distance education, as he has for the past 21 years at the University of Arkansas.
“I liked working with the technology, but I really enjoyed working with faculty and students,” Craig said.
Craig worked in the College of Education and Health Professions in the 1990s to deliver distance education classes via compressed interactive video, which was later replaced by online delivery. In 2000, Craig moved to the Global Campus and began working with Elaine Terrell, another instructional designer, to develop the U of A’s initial courses delivered online via the Internet.
“I’ve always enjoyed being on the ground floor of using new technologies for delivering coursework to students who cannot access classes in traditional campus settings,” Craig said.
The instructional designers work with academic units across campus in the development and delivery of online programs and courses. They also work with other support units across campus to produce training for faculty who use technology in online and face-to-face courses.
Javier Reyes, vice provost for distance education, presented the award to Craig at a recent ceremony and commended him for his dedication to helping others achieve their educational goals. Craig plans to retire from the university at the end of December.
“For more than 20 years Bobby Craig has been at the forefront of innovative course delivery at the University of Arkansas,” Reyes said. “He has worked with faculty and instructors all across campus and shared his insights and experience with instructional designers who have joined our team. He will be missed next year.”
The Global Campus initiated an employee recognition program in 2013 to recognize outstanding achievement and accomplishments that relate to the unit’s goals and the mission of the University of Arkansas. The other first quarter nominees were Jamie Loftin and Anne Marie Holimon.
The honoree is selected by a vote of all Global Campus employees. The award winner receives a commemorative certificate and a monetary award.
