New Courses Offered in Spring for Jewish Studies
The Jewish Studies Program — a very recent addition to the university’s areas of study — is pleased to announce its courses for the spring 2015 semester.
Both of these are new courses:
JWST 4013-001/PHIL 4093-001 Contemporary Jewish Thought will meet 2-3:15 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday in Old Main 206. The instructor is Jacob Adler. The course is a survey of Jewish thought in the 20th and 21st centuries. How do Jewish thinkers respond to such issues as assimilation, the Holocaust, the establishment of the State of Israel, suburbanization, the 60's counterculture, feminism, intermarriage and others? No prerequisites.

HIST 4203 History of the Holocaust will meet 3:30-4:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the Graduate Education Building, Room 340. The instructor will be Richard Sonn. This course on the Nazi attempt to exterminate the Jewish people during World War II will investigate why anti-Semitism attained such extreme levels in Germany; how the war affected the Holocaust and how the Holocaust impacted the war; and how perpetrators, victims and bystanders understood and responded to this momentous event in modern history.
