Club Sports Hosts Annual Food Drive Benefiting the Full Circle-Campus Food Pantry

The University Recreation Club Sports program is hosting its annual Food Drive, which benefits the Full Circle-Campus Food Pantry Nov. 1-30. The Club Sports program, which boasts 31 club sports team, is hosting the drive for the fourth year and has a goal of collecting over 2,750 pounds. Last year the program had 17 clubs donate a total of 2,561 pounds.

“There are so many students and families who struggle with having food on the table, especially during the holidays,” said Alexa Smith, vice president of the Women’s Rugby club and member of the Club Sports Advisory Council. “We want to give back to the community and go beyond just being an athlete.”

This year the Food Pantry is in most need of peanut butter, granola, canned meats (e.g. tuna and chicken), and jelly. Anyone can donate to the Club Sports Food Drive by dropping off food to the UREC main office, HPER 225, during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday 1-5 p.m.) Additionally, perishable items, such as dairy items or turkeys, can be accepted, however, please contact the Club Sports administration prior to making the donation at 479-575-6736.

Each individual club competes to donate the most food to earn Razorback points, which equate to dollar amounts for future funding. If someone would like to donate on behalf of a certain club, mention the club name when they make the donation. Clubs will earn one point for every five pounds of food donated.

The Food Drive is one of three program-wide community service drives the Club Sports program hosts. The annual Clothing Drive will take place in March and the annual Blood Drive will take place on April 2 in the HPER Building.
