New Course About Popular Music Available in Spring

This spring semester a new course that examines the history of popular music during the past century will be offered. MLIT 1333: Popular Music will particularly focus on prominent artists, from Jimmie Rodgers and Robert Johnson to Taylor Swift and Eminem, and genres, such as rock, country, pop, hip hop, and electronic music, among others.

The course will also explore the developments that led to the current state of popular music and the role of music within popular culture. No prior music knowledge is needed to take the course.

The class is offered by the Department of Music and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The course will be taught by Matthew Mihalka and any questions should be directed to him at mihalka@uark.edu.
