Industrial Engineering Department Gains Recognition at National Conference

Several industrial engineering faculty and students were honored at the annual conference of the American Society for Engineering Management in October in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Ed Pohl, head of the industrial engineering department, was elected to a three-year term serving as the south central regional director. Heather Nachtmann, professor of industrial engineering and associate dean of research for the College of Engineering, was elected to a four year position which rotates between secretary, president-elect, president and past-president.

Doctoral students Furkan Oztanriseven and co-author Mehmet Serdar Kilinc received second place in the student paper competition for their paper titled “Vendor and Investment Option Selection in the Apparel Industry,” which was based on a research project completed in Nachtmann’s class.

Kim Needy, professor of industrial engineering and dean of Graduate School and International Education received the Franklin B. W. Woodbury Special Service Award “in recognition of her unselfish contributions of an extraordinary nature and her continuing support of the American Society for Engineering Management.”

“I applaud these faculty members and students for their hard work and service to this important professional organization,” said John English, dean of engineering. “Our industrial engineers always represent our university well, and it’s great to see their dedication to their field recognized on a national level.”
