Kiefer Dooley Selected as October Student Leader of the Month

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior Kiefer Dooley is the October Student Leader of the Month. The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service. Dooley is originally from Siloam Springs and came to the University of Arkansas to major in criminal justice and sociology. He is currently involved in the Alpha Phi Sigma - Iota Rho chapter of the National Criminal Justice Honors Society and serves as president. Although he initially joined in order to become more active in his field of study, Dooley has found motivation and self-fulfillment from his involvement on campus.

"I believe that work ethic, patience, and humility are the most important qualities or characteristics of strong leaders,: Dooley responded when asked what he thought a leader's most important qualities were. "First of all, leaders must be willing to work hard. It is unfair to ask anyone to complete a task you are not willing to complete yourself. Secondly, in any position of leadership, patience is a necessity. Without patience it is easy to succumb to frustration and make poor decisions. Finally, strong leaders should be humble. I unconditionally believe that humble leaders inspire confidence and action within their organizations."

Dooley's advice to other leaders is straightforward, "Don't be afraid to work hard, lead through service, delegate, and be quick to give praise and credit to the individuals you are leading."
