FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- An article by Ed Mink and Mary Wyandt-Hiebert, “Wellness Coaching as an Emerging Trend in College Health Centers.” has been published in the latest American College Health Association  member newsletter.

Mink is the director of Wellness and Health Promotion Department. Wyandt-Hiebert is the director of STAR Central, the Office of Support, Training, Advocacy & Resources on Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence coordinated through the Wellness and Health Promotion Department.

Mink and Wyandt-Hiebert discuss wellness coaching in the article and how it can enhance health care for college students. They also write that wellness efforts focused on behavior change through an alliance with a coach may be among the most rewarding lessons learned while attending college.

During the 2013-14 academic year, four staff members in the department of wellness and health promotion, including Mink and Wyandt-Hiebert, became certified as wellness and health coaches. A wellness and health coach assists an individual or group identify their strengths, and use those strengths to build skills in areas where there is less wellness and balance.

Mink and Wyandt-Hiebert recently presented on the topic at the 2014 ACHA annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

ACHA serves as the principal leadership organization for advancing the health of college students and campus communities through advocacy, education and research.
