Call for Applications: Burton Fellowships Provide $4,000 for Fulbright College Students to Study Abroad

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Cleveland C. Burton Undergraduate Fellowship in International Studies provides $4,000 to Fulbright College students studying abroad. The fellowship is awarded to two students annually to defray tuition, program fees and travel costs associated with a study abroad program. One fellow is chosen each semester. Recent fellows have studied in Hungary, Mexico, Morocco, Costa Rica, France, Japan, Sweden, India and Syria.

Fellows must be pursuing a degree in Fulbright College, hold sophomore standing or above, have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, complete an application form and 500-word (2 page) essay and submit two letters of recommendation. Students chosen during the fall 2014 and spring 2015 semesters must use their awards during the 2015 calendar year.

The Cleveland C. Burton Fellowships are made possible by the generous philanthropy of the Honorable Cleveland C. Burton of Shreveport, Louisiana. In 2008, his niece and executor of his estate, Julia Peck Mobley of Texarkana, Texas, created the Cleveland C. Burton Professorship in International Programs to enhance Fulbright College study abroad opportunities and to promote the legacy of Senator Fulbright. The fellowships are supported by the professorship.
