Ready...Set...Mentor! Speed Mentoring Event Hosted by the Chancellor's Commission on Women
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Chancellor’s Commission on Women is pleased to announce their Inaugural Speed Mentoring Event from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 in the Arkansas Union, rooms 508-511. This is an exciting new take on mentoring, and the commission invites current U of A students, both undergraduate and graduate, to participate and help make this event a success.
What is speed mentoring?
If you’ve heard of speed dating – then you’re on the right track. But instead of trying to find a prospective romantic partner, think about meeting potential mentors, protégées, allies and sources of information to help you make the most of your career.
How does it work? After a brief overview, attendees will split into two groups: the prospective mentors and the prospective mentees. You will meet one-on-one with another participant for 3 minutes, getting to know each other and discussing your professional strengths and challenges. After 3 minutes, the mentees will move to the next prospective mentor until they have made 10 “connections.” The introductions and speed mentoring portion should take about an hour and the commission will host a reception after the session to allow for further discussions between the mentors and mentees.
Who is invited? For this inaugural event, the commission is focusing on connecting students (undergrads and grads) with potential faculty and staff mentors.
Space and mentors are limited for this event and registration is required; the first 30 students to register will be accommodated. To ensure you have the opportunity to connect with your ideal mentor, register now at http:uawomen.uark.edu.
Are you ready to meet your match?
