Hot Springs Chapter to Host Annual Scholarship Fundraiser
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Hot Springs Chapter of the Arkansas Alumni Association will host its Annual Scholarship Fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the home of Dr. Mike and Sonya McFarland.
Brandy Cox, associate vice chancellor for alumni and executive director of the Arkansas Alumni Association, will share the latest news from the University of Arkansas and the Alumni Association. A U of A alumna, Cox is a Hot Springs Village native and a graduate of Jessieville High School.
The cost is $35 for Alumni Association members and $40 for nonmembers and guests. Registration information is available at www.arkansasalumni.org/HotSpringsBanquet2014; the deadline is Sept. 29. Proceeds from the event help students from Garland County attend the University of Arkansas.
“The Scholarship Fundraiser is an important event which allows our local Arkansas Alumni Chapter the opportunity to raise funds in order to assist local graduating seniors in their pursuit of higher education,” said Sara Runyon, president of the Hot Springs Chapter. “If it were not for the University of Arkansas, I wouldn't have several of the friends, contacts and the job that I have today. This event makes it possible for scholarship recipients to have similar experiences such as mine and share the love for the U of A.”
The Hot Springs Chapter has awarded freshman scholarships since 1994. Since that time, the chapter has distributed 87 scholarships totaling $105,000.
This year, the chapter awarded three scholarships at $2,000 each. The chapter also has a scholarship endowment valued just under $50,000, which funds one of the $2,000 scholarships.
