Limited Availability of Free Testing Materials Provided by ASG
Associated Student Government will no longer be able to sponsor free testing materials, past their current supply. For the past three years, ASG has funded free scantrons and bluebooks for all University of Arkansas students. During the 2013-14 academic year, nearly 10,000 students came to the ASG Office to pick up over 12,000 pieces of testing material. The average yearly cost to fund scantrons and bluebooks is roughly $10,000.
ASG President Daniel McFarland stated, “The 2014-2015 operation budget was not capable of funding testing materials for the upcoming school year. However, ASG is looking for alternate sources of increasing availability for testing materials for the future.”
The remaining supply of testing materials are available in the ASG office, ARKU A669 (above the computer lab in the Union) while supplies last. There is a limit of three per student. Testing materials can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The program began under 2011-12 ASG President Michael Dodd. Dodd utilized remaining Readership Funds to fund scantrons by using the materials to promote the Razorback Readership Program. Since then, remaining funds from the Readership budget have been utilized to fund the program. In spring of 2013, ASG Senate passed, A Resolution to Provide Necessary Testing Materials act that called for a permanent funding process to establish funding for testing materials. In fall of 2013, Senate passed the Testing Materials Act of 2013 that purchased $1,000 worth of testing materials. This bill has allowed the current supply of testing materials to be maintained and made available for free to students in the ASG offices within the Arkansas Union.
Students can purchase testing materials at the Arkansas Bookstore, Club Red Locations across campus, and at vending machines located in the Arkansas Union and Old Main.
