Deadline Tomorrow: Associated Student Government Cabinet Vacancy for Director of External Affairs

Associated Student Government is seeking a student leader to fill a vacant cabinet position for the 2014-15 academic year. This position is a great way for students interested to get involved, make a difference and participate in shared governance at the University of Arkansas. Students interested must meet the co-curricular requirements as well as the individual requirements for the available position. Applications are due to the Office of Student Activities (Arkansas Union Room A665) by noon on September 12.  Applications can be found at osa.uark.edu.

The ASG director of external relations will lead the effort to advocate for the University of Arkansas student body.  This position will bring the student voice to elected officials at the local, state and national level. 

Position expectations:

  • Serve as the liaison to the city of Fayetteville and Mayor Jordan
  • Serve as the liaison to the Education Committee in the Arkansas General Assembly
  • Serve as the liaison to the Arkansas congressional delegation
  • Become the Director of Student Advocacy

Platform initiatives:

  • Explore the possibility of a “Soft Closing” for Dickson Street bars 
  • Look into possibility of holding on-campus debate for the Arkansas governorship
  • Work with city of Fayetteville to hold on-campus Mayoral Town Hall

“The position of director of external affairs is an integral role on the Executive Cabinet. We are looking for hardworking and enthusiastic applicants that are ready to get started,” said Cicely Shannon, ASG chief of staff.
