Robert B. Moberly, dean emeritus and professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law, was recently elected vice president of the National Academy of Arbitrators at its annual meeting in Chicago. Moberly previously served on the National Academy of Arbitrators Board of Governors, its five-member executive committee, and as chair of its Southeast Region.

“We are grateful for Professor Moberly's leadership at both the national and international level,” said Stacy Leeds, dean of the School of Law. “In labor law and dispute resolution circles, he is known for advancing the law both as an intellectual leader and as a servant to countless professional associations."

Moberly has authored 40 publications in the areas of labor law and dispute resolution, including two coauthored books. He previously served on the Arkansas Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission, and chaired the Alternative Dispute Resolution and Labor Law Sections of the Association of American Law Schools. He also served on the executive board of the Labor Law Group, and recently was elected to the Executive Board of the U.S. branch of the International Society for Labor Law and Social Security.

The National Academy of Arbitrators is a non-profit professional and honorary organization of arbitrators and academics with substantial experience as impartial arbitrators and researchers of labor-management disputes. It was formed to foster high standards among labor arbitrators, and to promote the study of the arbitration of labor-management and employment disputes.

Moberly said, “I am honored and privileged to again serve in a leadership position of the National Academy of Arbitrators. Its members have helped resolve labor-management disputes in the U.S. and Canada for almost 70 years, and have also been the leading scholars in the study of labor arbitration.”

Moberly earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to his service as dean, he was trustee research fellow and professor of law at the University of Florida, where he was the founding director of the Institute for Dispute Resolution.
