Phishing Scam Spoofed Blackboard Learn

Several users received a malicious email on Friday claiming that the recipient’s Blackboard Learn access was expiring. The phishing scam was designed to steal university credentials and contained a link that appeared to go to learn.uark.edu.

The message was identified as a phishing scam by ProofPoint, a new IT Services email gateway system. ProofPoint blocked Exchange users who clicked the link from accessing the malicious site. Non-Exchange users who clicked the link and did not see a ProofPoint warning page are advised to change their UARK passwords immediately at password.uark.edu.

The IT Services Security team received notification of the scam from a user and contacted the host of the malicious link to remove the page. IT Services encourages users to report suspicious email to abuse@uark.edu with full headers (https://techarticles.uark.edu/34).
