U of A Makes List of ‘Green Colleges’ in Latest Princeton Review Publication
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas has been included in The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges: 2014 Edition. The guide is the result of a survey of more than 800 colleges and universities around the country.
The institutions are rated based on their environmental and sustainability-related policies, practices and academic offerings, and given a “Green Rating” score from 60-99. Schools with ratings of 83 and above are included in this year’s Guide, although the schools are not ranked, and the scores are not published.
In its profile, the U of A is cited for a variety of sustainability initiatives, including:
- The pledge to become carbon neutral by 2040
- Reducing of greenhouse gas emissions to 2002 levels while adding 5000 additional students and 1.6 million square feet new facilities
- Requiring all new construction to be LEED certified
- Purchasing green certified cleaning products
- Creating of a campus Sustainability Council
- Appointing an executive director for the Office of Sustainability
- Creating a sustainability minor
- Providing sustainability research and leadership for business and agriculture
