University of Arkansas Press Publishes Second Verse, Same as the First
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Press has published Second Verse, Same as the First: The 2012 Presidential Election in the South, edited by Scott E. Buchanan and Branwell DuBose Kapeluck, both political science professors at The Citadel.
The collection of essays, published with the support of the Diane D. Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society, covers the 2012 election as it played out in the 11 former states of the Confederacy. It is the eighth book published in the series established in 1984 by The Citadel Symposium on Southern Politics, and it is the second volume in the series to be published by the University of Arkansas Press.
The book is organized by state and emphasizes the presidential campaign, but each state chapter also analyzes important patterns at the state level. The Arkansas chapter was co-authored by University of Arkansas political science professor Janine Parry and Hendrix College professor of politics Jay Barth.
According to John M. Bruce, political science professor at the University of Mississippi, “Second Verse, Same as the First is the definitive guide to how the South factored into the 2012 race for the White House, and how the politics of this important region may play out in the future.”
Scott E. Buchanan is associate professor of political science at The Citadel. He is the author of Some of the People Who Ate My Barbecue Didn’t Vote for Me: The Life of Georgia Governor Marvin Griffin. Branwell DuBose Kapeluck is associate professor of political science at The Citadel and coeditor of A Paler Shade of Red: The 2008 Presidential Election in the South, published by the University of Arkansas Press.
