During the spring 2014 semester, 13 non-traditional students were inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society at the University of Arkansas. This national honor society recognizes the special achievements of adult learners who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. It is the largest, chapter-based honor society for full- and part-time students.

The University of Arkansas maintains a local chapter, Nu Epsilon Alpha, which is administered by Susan Stiers, chapter adviser. Each year, eligible students are identified and invited to join the honor society. Nu Epsilon Alpha’s eligibility criteria includes a 3.6 GPA. Membership is limited to undergraduate students seeking their first degree. Induction entitles those recognized to a lifetime membership while chapter status at the university entitles undergraduates to apply for 10 national scholarships awarded by the national association.

For the nontraditional student, the society stands as an inspiration for continuing scholastic growth, and is a builder of pride through recognition. More information is available on the Alpha Sigma Lambda website. Members and others may follow Alpha Sigma Lambda on Facebook, Twitter, or join the group page at LinkedIn.
