FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas graduate Denise Malan will be signing copies of her book The Runner’s Bucket List: 200 Races to Run Before You Die from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 11, in Kimpel Hall Room 113. This event is open to the public and runners of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to come meet the author.

The book is for runners at all levels who are searching for the world’s most unique running adventures, the races that all enthusiasts should seriously consider participating in before they hang up their shoes. Included among the 200 one-of-a-kind races:

  • The Zevenheuvelenloop 15K – or the Seven Hills Run – featuring the elite 15K runners of the world, in the hills of Nijmegen, Netherlands
  • The Midnight Sun Run in Fairbanks, Alaska, celebrating the summer solstice and 24-hour sunshine with a race in the daylight during the middle of the night
  • The Fat Ass 5K, which includes stops for beer, ice cream, doughnuts and corn dogs throughout this Springfield, Illinois trek
  • The Berserkr Games in Ricardo, Texas, which feature a helicopter-drop start, 44 obstacles per loop, and muddy and sandy terrain

Malan graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2003 with a double major in journalism and physics. She is a devoted runner who has worked as a reporter, editor and fitness columnist at newspapers in Arkansas and Texas. She wrote a running and fitness column for the Caller-Times that was voted by readers as the newspaper’s favorite column. She lives in Kansas City, Mo., where she works for a nonprofit organization supporting investigative journalists.
