Internationally Known Chemist to Speak at U of A
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – John Yates, a world leader in surface science and catalysis, will speak at the University of Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 31 in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium. Yates is a professor of chemistry and of chemical engineering at the University of Virginia. His lecture is co-sponsored by the U of A department of chemistry and biochemistry and the university’s Local Section of the American Chemical Society. A reception will be held in the Chemistry Building room 105 at 4:30 p.m. and will provide an opportunity to speak with Yates.
Yates is a fellow of the American Chemical Society, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and among his many honors was recently received the prestigious Gerhard Ertl Lecturer Award for Surface Science and Catalysis.
Yates received his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1960, and taught at the University of Pittsburgh for more than 20 years before joining the faculty at the University of Virginia in 2006. He has co-edited or co-authored several books and published more than 700 articles.
