FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Members of the University of Arkansas Police Department will be conducting free vehicle safety checks for students three times before the week of Spring Break. The inspections will cover:

  • All exterior lights including headlights, taillights, and brake lights
  • Turn signals
  • Wiper blades and washer fluid
  • Oil and transmission fluid
  • Tire pressure and tread
  • Horn

“We did this for the first time last year, and it was pretty popular, so we hope to make it an annual event,” said D. Brett Waddell, public safety officer. “Students do a lot of traveling during Spring Break, and even a broken tail light can be enough to ruin the vacation.

“This is not an enforcement event, no one will be getting tickets or warnings for faulty equipment. This is a safety check so we can advise students if they may need to get something fixed before driving long distances.”

The safety checks will be done at the UAPD sub-station located on the east side of Reid Hall on three dates:

  • 5-8 p.m. Sunday March 16
  • 3:30- 6:30 p.m. Monday March 17
  • 4:30 – 8 p.m. Thursday March 20
