Older Outlook Versions Blocked From Exchange Starting March 12
Older versions of Outlook will be blocked from accessing Exchange, the email and calendar service for faculty and staff, on March 12 as part of the university’s migration to Exchange 2013. Mobile email apps will not be affected.
Most faculty and staff use updated versions of Outlook and will not need to take any action. However, some users will be required to install updates.
- Windows users will need to install the most current service pack, as well as the November 2012 or later update for Outlook 2007 and 2010. IT Services encourages Windows users to upgrade to Outlook 2013.
- Mac users are encouraged to upgrade to Outlook 2011, however, Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition is still supported.
Faculty and staff needing support to update Outlook can contact their department tech partner (https://techarticles.uark.edu/tech_partners/list). Those without an assigned tech partner can contact the IT Services Help Desk at 479-575-2905 or go to askit.uark.edu.
Updates are required in preparation for the migration to the Exchange 2013 environment this summer. The new Exchange environment will provide faculty and staff with a 4 GB email quota and an improved Outlook Web App (exchange.uark.edu) interface that uses responsive Web design for desktop, mobile and tablet. Exchange 2013 will also improve contact management, including importing contacts from social networks and an expanded contact search.
