Woo Bid Sooie: Journalism Department Holds Third Annual Online Auction

The chance to watch a Razorback game from the Chancellor's skybox is one of the items up for bid.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Ever wonder what it would be like to see the Hogs from the Chancellor’s skybox at Donald W. Reynolds Stadium? Are you a Hog fan looking to add to your autographed memorabilia collection? How about a pair of hard-to-get tickets to the Fayetteville Roots Festival?

The Walter J. Lemke Journalism Department is sponsoring its third annual online auction, “Woo Bid Sooie.” It began Feb. 27 and will continue through March 31, closing at noon CDT.  All proceeds of the auction are for the purchase of a product or service and are not tax-deductible charitable gifts.

The money raised in the auction will support the Lemke Journalism Department student travel fund, for undergraduate and graduate journalism students who want to attend professional conferences for various job opportunities.

Most auction items are services or social opportunities with professors, college administrators or community leaders. This year’s auction offers, among the 32 items up for bid, organic food baskets, a documentary package from Emmy winning documentary filmmaker Larry Foley, and an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the beer-making process with a guided tour of Core Brewery.

Members of the journalism staff will be auctioning off lunch, golf outings, and homemade meals. Hit the golf links with your own Razorback logo golf balls or Razorback golf umbrella. If you’re an avid outdoors person, purchase a War Eagle river float trip and lunch with outdoor writer Flip Putthoff.  Fans of Bette Midler can grab up an art print of “The Showgirl Must Go On.” Pass your next exam with three hours of math and science tutoring from David A. Young.

Are you a fan of the Fayetteville experience?  Purchase a set of tickets to the Roots Festival and celebrate the music, food and culture that make Fayetteville so special.  The 2014 Northwest Arkansas Gridiron Show is sure to be a laugh with skits and songs spoofing local, state and national news -- bid on tickets and a bottle of wine is included to ensure the perfect mood.  The University of Arkansas Press has offered a copy of its popular book, “Etched in Stone.” Catch the “Trey McIntyre Project” at the Walton Arts Center by purchasing the ticket package.

If it’s food that you crave, enjoy a pecan pie from journalism instructor Ray Minor or learn to make your own delicious dishes from Chef Tuesday Eastlack. Purchase a personal tour of Crystal Bridges from Sandy Edwards, deputy director of museum relations, or bid on your own hand-painted Razorback canvas by instructor Robyn Ledbetter. Woo Bid Sooie is also offering a chance to bid on an oral history-recording lesson from the Pryor Center for Oral and Visual History, or you can smile for the camera with a photography shoot from graduate assistant Brooke McNeely. Some people want to it to be known that they are part of the ultimate college and now they can bid on a package of Arkansas and Razorback themed clothing and accessories from Belle Boutique.

This is a great time for Razorback athletics and Woo Bid Sooie is offering memorabilia to commemorate this time in Razorback history. Coach Bret Bielema is leading the gridiron Hogs into a new era and he has offered footballs signed by himself and his staff. Basketball coach Mike Anderson is ushering in his “Fastest 40 Minutes” brand of basketball and offering autographed basketballs for the Woo Bid Sooie auction. The diamond Hogs are coming out swinging to start this season but Coach Dave Van Horn took the time to autograph a bat and a baseball for bidders to remember this season. The nationally recognized women’s golf team has offered an autographed team poster for the golf aficionado as well as a Razorback umbrella and a dozen golf balls.
