Wil Cheatham, February Student Leader of the Month

Sophomore Wil Cheatham has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for February.  Originally from Bentonville, Ark., Wil came to the University of Arkansas to double major in Spanish and criminal justice.

Wil is currently involved  in Associated Student Government, Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Student Organization Outreach and Involvement Experience (SOOIE), Volunteer Action Center’s Literacy Program, and the University Traffic, Parking, and Transit Committee. Wil also serves a member of the HOG W.I.L.D Welcome Weeks Crew.

When asked why he made the decision to get involved on campus, Wil said, “I firmly believe that involvement is the key to success in life. I find that many students upon first arriving to college find that they have quite a bit of time on their hands. I have always been someone who needs structure in life, and my involvement kept me on track. It ensured success both in an out of the classroom.”

Wil reports that his most memorable moment as a student leader was the first time he stood on the senate floor after winning a vacancy seat in the senate. He elaborated, saying “I knew then that I had made a choice to dedicate myself to making the University of Arkansas the best that it can be.”

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service.  More information about the award can be found here.

All nomination forms should be submitted to Jordan Scribner, graduate assistant for New Student & Family Programs, via email at jascribn@uark.edu by the first Friday of each month.
