Honors College to Host Annual Meeting of SEC Honors Leaders

The Honors College will welcome 26 honors administrators from Southeastern Conference schools to campus Feb. 27 to March 1. The SEC Honors Leaders is an informal group of colleagues who have been sharing ideas and meeting annually for the past five years. Honors leaders from 12 of the 14 SEC schools, the best turn out for the annual meeting so far, will gather in the new honors wing in Ozark Hall to discuss best practices in honors education.

“All of us face similar challenges, and these gatherings provide a wonderful venue for us to meet face-to-face and discuss how best to deal with them,” said Bob McMath, dean of the Honors College.

Topics to be discussed at the meeting include building a 21st century honors curriculum, recruiting and retaining honors students, and developing advisory boards. The group will also explore the possibility of developing an SEC-wide undergraduate research symposium.
