Transforming the Flagship Presents Highlights of Recent Progress on U of A Campus

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A new publication provides an easy way to answer the question “What’s new at the University of Arkansas?” The 21-page booklet, Transforming the Flagship, offers nearly 100 brief summaries of the positive changes and achievements taking place on the Fayetteville campus. These include examples of the progress being made in enrollment, research, construction, fundraising, national rankings and many other areas as the U of A moves towards recognition as a Top 50 public research university.

Want to find out more about our students? Page 12 is a good place to start, but there’s something to learn about our students’ achievements on almost every page.

The same is true for the accomplishments of our faculty, both as teachers and as researchers.

For alumni who haven’t been on campus for a few years the dozens of pictures provide an eye-opening experience.

For donors curious about how their gifts are being used – again, every page and every picture offers examples.

“I think this publication will be important to everyone who has a stake in the future of the University of Arkansas,” said Chancellor G. David Gearhart. “We are sending it to all our alumni, donors, faculty, and staff, as well as to our current students and their parents. We are very proud of what the University of Arkansas has accomplished in the past few years, and we want to share this information with all the people who have helped make it possible.

“We also intend to share this publication with our leaders in the state government because our ultimate stakeholders are the people of Arkansas. We think Transforming the Flagship demonstrates that taxpayer support for the University of Arkansas is paying off like never before, that it is an investment in a better future for Arkansas."

Transforming the Flagship was compiled and designed by the staff of the office of university relations at the U of A. The cost of production and distribution is being paid for with private funds. 

“I want to commend everyone who worked on this publication,” said Chris Wyrick, vice chancellor for advancement at the university. “It is going to be a very useful tool, today and in the future. As we enter into a major fundraising campaign, this booklet will be a great starting point for anyone who wants to know about the progress we are making on this campus. I think it will also be very valuable to alumni chapter leaders across the country and around the world, as they work to expand our alumni association membership.”

The booklet should be of interest to future students as well.

 “Universities across the country compete for the best students including those in Arkansas,” said Suzanne McCray, vice provost for enrollment and dean of admissions. “I am very proud of the University of Arkansas’ ability to attract top students in Arkansas as well as excellent students from every state in the nation in this very competitive environment. As high school populations remain flat or decrease, the competition is going to continue to escalate. Transforming the Flagship is definitely a much needed recruiting tool – it is a lovely, informative piece that really captures the spirit and energy of this campus.”

Transforming the Flagship will be mailed to university stakeholders beginning Feb. 10.
