FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Godwin-Charles Ogbeide, an associate professor of hospitality in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has published a book focusing on financial issues in the hospitality industry.

Ogbeide’s, book Revenue Management, Cost Control, and Financial Analysis in the Hospitality Industry offers students a  step-by-step spreadsheet approach to accounting and financial analysis to teach budgeting and other financial skills required in the hospitality industry.

“This book was designed to cover the practicalities of hospitality management financial competencies,” said Ogbeide, who is in the food, human nutrition and hospitality management department of the School of Human and Environmental Sciences.

The book includes an introduction to financial analysis and spreadsheet modeling, and sections on forecasting, revenue management and cost control.

Readers are guided in creating annual operating budgets, analyzing financial statements, and understanding the impact of each.

The book also includes examples and real-world scenarios, focusing on facts and solutions needed to solve accounting and financial issues.

Revenue Management, Cost Control and Financial Analysis in the Hospitality Industry was written to be used in hospitality accounting and finance courses, but also applies to recreation and sports management, and as a resource for current and future hospitality managers.

Ogbeide’s specialty areas include meetings and event innovation, leadership development, revenue management and financial analysis in the hospitality industry.

Ogbeide, who earned his master’s and doctorate with emphasis in hospitality management and leadership development from the University of Missouri, has taught courses such as Food, Beverage and Labor Cost Management; Front Office Revenue Management; Meetings, Events and Conventions Management; and Hospitality Operations and Financial Analysis.

Their case, titled “Leadership and Management in a Family Business Setting,” focused on issues related to succession planning, decision-making and leadership in an independent multi-unit restaurant setting.
