University Programs presents The Ghosts of the Past Exposed

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University Programs will host the exhibit Ghosts of the Past Exposed, by Megan Chapman from Feb. 17 to March 7 in the Anne Kittrell Art Gallery at the University of Arkansas Union. The exhibit is open Monday thru Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a reception from 6- 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the Gallery.

This event is free to current University of Arkansas students who pay the student activities fee. Students must show ID for entrance. Admission for general public and non-fee-paying students is contingent upon seating availability and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis after fee-paying students are admitted. Born in Fayetteville, Ark., artist Megan Chapman received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Oregon and has shown her work all over the world for the past 17 years. Chapman strives to tell stories through her mixed media artwork. The exhibit Ghosts of the Past Exposed tells the story of her family genealogy throughout Scotland. The hero of her story is Chapman’s great-great-great grandfather, Murdoch Campbell, born in Scotland in 1784. In his lifetime, Murdoch immigrated to Arkansas, where he died as an Arkansas farmer.

Chapman says, “I am then born in Arkansas one hundred and twenty years later, not knowing that I would return to Scotland to make art for his ghost.”

The blue in the images represents water, air and dreams. The map lines connect the figures to their homeland as well as to each other.

“This is my story and theirs, but it is also yours and ours,” says Chapman. Come out and experience the artwork and the history that lies within Ghosts of the Past Exposed by Megan Chapman.
