Department of Art Presents February Schedule
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The department of art in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences has an exciting schedule of events for the month of February including a new faculty exhibition, a sUgAR gallery exhibition and guest artists, who will present lectures and workshops at the University of Arkansas.
The Fine Arts Center Gallery will showcase New Faculty Exhibition: Stephanie Pierce and Cynthia Nourse Thompson. The exhibition began Tuesday, Jan. 21, and will run until Sunday, Feb. 23. Pierce’s work explores perception and abstraction, while Thompson’s work portrays her life experiences and concerns with growing up in the religious South. The public may view the exhibit from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Thompson will give a lecture about the exhibition at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center.
sUgAR, the University of Arkansas student gallery, will host an exhibition by V.L. Cox on Thursday, Feb. 6. For more information check the sUgAR Facebook page.
Guest artist Peter Kruty will give a letterpress printing workshop from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the printmaking studio of the Fine Arts Center. Kruty, a master letterpress printer, will give a lecture on letterpress printing at 6 p.m. the same day in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center.
Guest artist Marat Paransky will show work addressing issues around nuclear power plant disasters as part of a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center. An exhibition of Paransky’s work will be shown at The Bottle Rocket Gallery from Wednesday, Feb. 5, until Saturday, March 1. The gallery is located at 1495 Finger Road in Fayetteville.
Guest artist Susan Lichtman will give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center. Lichtman is a painter from Rehoboth, Mass. She has received many honors for her artwork including awards from American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation.
