RSO of the Week: New Greek Council

This week’s featured registered student organization is New Greek Council. New Greek Council is a recently added organization for new members in the Greek life community. The organization aims to create interaction and unity among the various sororities and fraternities on campus. In addition, the organization helps to foster leadership skills, gives students the opportunity to serve as a representative for their chapter within the organization and in the community, and promotes loyalty to the ideals of the Greek community.

New Greek Council is composed of two representatives from the most recent pledge class of each sorority and fraternity. These members are responsible for attending weekly meetings and helping with the set up for their sponsored events. These events include the Coke Date Kick-off, an event for all the new Greek life members to socialize and meet one another, and Greek Sing, an annual event consisting of musical theater performances. In addition to planning events New Greek Council also works to educate its representatives about how to become more valuable members of the Greek community, how to be better students, and about the operations of other school’s Greek councils.

Michael MacBlane, a representative from Farm House Fraternity, said, “My favorite part about New Greek Council is getting to be a leader on campus. I get to be involved in planning events for everyone in the Greek community.”

Johnny Drenchy, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, said, “My favorite part about my involvement is people in all the different councils.”

Through involvement within this organization members are able to expand their knowledge about Greek life and improve their leadership, planning, and academic skills.
