Learn About Latest Regulations for Offering Courses to Students Outside Arkansas

University of Arkansas faculty, administrators and staff are invited to participate in a webcast and information session about the university’s compliance with regulations that govern the delivery of educational programs to students living outside Arkansas. The event is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in Room 403 of the Global Campus.

Each higher education institution that offers educational programs – including online programs – to students living in another state must comply with that state’s authorization regulations. Regulations vary by state and apply to courses and programs offered outside an institution’s home state, but inside the United States.

The Global Campus spearheads efforts by the University of Arkansas to maintain compliance with these regulations, and the Jan. 23 information session will provide an institutional update regarding compliance.

Contact Colleen Whitman at chdoyle@uark.edu to reserve a seat. Complimentary parking will be provided on the third level of the Municipal Parking Deck.

The webcast “What’s New with SARA? The National State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement” will be presented by WCET, the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies, a national cooperative that brings together higher education institutions and organizations to improve the quality and reach of e-learning programs.

The webcast will feature Marshall Hill, executive director of the National Council for State Reciprocity Agreements. He will provide an update on the national initiative to create interstate reciprocity in the regulation of postsecondary distance education.

The national initiative involves the collaboration of the four regional higher education compacts and aims to make distance education courses more accessible to students across state lines, strengthen consumer protection, and facilitate regulatory compliance. The four compacts include the Midwestern Higher Education Compact, New England Board of Higher Education, Southern Region Education Board, and Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.

Following the webcast, Kim Bradford, director of compliance and quality assurance at the Global Campus, will provide an overview of state authorization compliance efforts at the University of Arkansas.

The Global Campus will provide an archive of the webcast at a later time, which may be viewed and shared by university faculty, administrators and staff who are unable to attend.

The Global Campus supports academic colleges and schools at the University of Arkansas that develop and deliver online degree programs and courses. It provides access to national distance education organizations, instructional design services, and assistance with strategic academic program development and marketing.
