Angelica Puga, December Student Leader of the Month

Junior Angelica Puga has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for December. Originally from De Queen, Ark., Angelica came to the University of Arkansas to pursue a dual degree in management and Spanish.

She currently serves as the innovative arts and events chair for University Programs, a mentor for iConnect, treasurer for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and a participant in Student Support Services.

When asked why she became involved in these activities, Angelica said, “I wanted to be involved in organizations to make a difference. For instance, during my freshman year, I became a mentor for Dream BIG and for SSS. I also became a member of the Association of Latinos for Professionals in Finance and Accounting, the League United Latin American Citizens, and Pomfret Hall Senate. Through my involvement in these organizations, I was able to achieve a deeper understanding of networking, have been able to develop my communication skills, and now understand the importance of assisting others.”

Angelica believes that the most important characteristics for any leader of a team or organization to possess are to be “a good listener, understanding, strategic, and able to work in a positive manner with others.”

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service. More information about the award can be found at here. All nomination forms should be submitted to Jordan Scribner, graduate assistant for New Student & Family Programs, via email at jascribn@uark.edu by the first Friday of each month.
