Come and Learn About Short Term Disability Insurance

Open enrollment for the new University of Arkansas Short Term Disability Plan is happening now and ends Dec. 13. Are you interested in the new Short Term Disability Plan but would like more information?

The U of A will have representatives from the insurance company, UNUM, on campus Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 4, to present informational sessions. These sessions will have helpful information for classified staff covered by the basic Short Term Disability Plan as well as classified staff making in excess of $45,000 and non-classified faculty and staff who are interested in enrolling in the optional Short Term Disability Plan.

The schedule for these sessions is:

December 3

9:30 a.m. – ARKU 507-508*

*Not on campus but would still like to participate in these sessions? The 9:30 a.m. session on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and the 2:30 p.m. session of Wednesday, Dec. 4, will be broadcast online via Blackboard Collaborate. Remember, classified Staff who make less than $45,000 a year are already covered by the basic, university-paid Short Term Disability Insurance Plan. No enrollment is required for the basic disability plan. The current enrollment period is for the optional Short Term Disability Insurance Plan, which will cover classified staff salaries in excess of $45,000 and the total salary for non-classified faculty and staff, not to exceed a maximum covered salary of $216,000. Enrollment forms and premiums are available from the disability section of Human Resources website at hr.uark.edu/benefits. Employees of the Division of Agriculture are not eligible to participate in the Short Term Disability benefits.

This will be the only open enrollment period offered for the Short Term Disability Plan. Eligible new employees will be given 31 days from their benefits-eligible appointment dates to enroll in the Short Term Disability plan. Existing employees who do not enroll during this Open Enrolment period will have to complete Evidence of Insurability requirements for a later enrollment.
