Flávia Dechandt Araújo, November Student Leader of the Month

Sophomore Flávia Dechandt Araújo has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for November. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Flávia came to the University of Arkansas to major in business management.

Flávia currently plays for the University of Arkansas women's tennis team, serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, and is a member of the International Student Association and Brazilians at UARK student organizations.

When asked why she became involved in these activities, Flávia said, "I joined these organizations to be more connected with other international students  and to help raise awareness about their events and causes."

She assisted in the first-ever Student-Athlete Mixer and is currently working with Student-Athlete Advisory Council committees in partnership with the office of international students and scholars to create additional programs that can benefit international student-athletes and all other international students on campus. Flávia advises her peers and emerging student leaders to "have no regrets; mistakes can lead you to even greater things."

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service. More information about the award can be found at here. All nomination forms should be submitted to Jordan Scribner, graduate assistant for New Student & Family Programs, via email at jascribn@uark.edu by the first Friday of each month.
